Post 43 off to slow, rainy start
Fort Mill's American Legion Post 43 baseball team kicked off its season last week, despite Amazon-like weather conditions.
The group has managed to squeeze three full games in between passing thunderstorms, although their double-header against Clover last Thursday only lasted two innings before the skies opened up.
After dropping a doubleheader against Chester to open the season, the team bounced back do defeat Lancaster 17-7 in seven innings, boosting their overall record this season to 1-2.
The game was cut two innings short because of the team's 10-run lead, thanks to a dominant pitching performance by Fort Mill High School standout Eli Windham, who threw a complete game.
"The boys looked good in that game. They looked more relaxed and swung the bats," said the team's General Manager, Bill Banks. "They didn't swing at everything like they did against Chester, but Chester does have some good pitching."
"I definitely think we look a lot stronger than we were last year," Head Coach Eric Baddeley said about his early-season impression of the players. "A few veteran guys from last year showed up that we didn't expect to play. I'm looking forward to it."
Post 43 team will be back in action Thursday, when it takes on Rock Hill at Fort Mill High School. The first pitch will be at 7 p.m.
