Lady Jackets back at .500 mark for the year

FORT MILL -- 

With the state playoffs right around the corner, the Fort Mill High Lady Jackets tennis team is back at the .500 mark for the season.

Now at 8-8 on the year, Fort Mill holds a solid position on third place in the Region III-AAAA standings. They should open the first round of the playoffs Oct. 27 on the road.

Fort Mill had just one match last week after being rained out on Thursday. Earlier in the week, they swept York High School winning 7-0.

Leading the way for the Lady Jackets was No. 1 singles player, Morgan Chumney, improved to 13-1 on the season with a win over York's Brandi Neely 6-2, 6-0.

Fort Mill's No. 2 singles player, Mady Katz, picked up a win against York's Mary Goss 6-3, 6-4.

Her win was followed by No. 3 Kayla Blackley beating Hanna Whitesides 6-0, 6-2 for her first win of the season.

Ali Jensen, at No. 4 singles, topped Kate Shirley 6-2, 6-0 and No. 5 Lauren Williams defeated Allison Rodgers 6-1, 6-2.

Fort Mill also dominated in doubles with Chumney and Katz winning 8-1 over Neely and Whitesides. the No. 2 doubles team, Sierra Hoisington and Persephone McCullough, defeated Sarah Webb and Karlee Stasiak 6-1, 6-0.
