Fort Mill bounced from playoffs
An up and down tennis season for the Lady Jackets ended on a sour note last week as they fell to Blythewood High School in the opening round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
The Lady Jackets lost to Blythewood 4-2 with No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Morgan Chumney and Mady Katz picking up the two wins for Fort Mill.
Chumney defeated Lee Ferrel 6-1, 6-1 and Katz beat Mikaela King in three sets 4-6, 6-2 and 10-8.
No. 3 singles player Kayla Blackley fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 and No. 4 and No. 5 singles players Alli Jensen and Lauren Williams each fell in three sets. Jensen lost 6-3, 5-7, 10-1 and Williams lost 6-3, 3-6 and 10-7.
In doubles, Persephone McCollough and Sierra Hoisington also lost in three sets 6-1, 6-7 and 10-7.

Nation Ford launches
youth wrestling program
The first practice for the new youth wrestling program at Nation Ford High School is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8. The club is open to students born between 1997 and 2003. The cost is $85.

Jackets' JV wins
Fort Mill High School's JV football team defeated York Comprehensive 35-22 for the Jackets' second win of the season last week.
The Jackets' leading scorer was David Greshem with three rushing touchdowns. Nick Raszeja also ran for a touchdown. Quentari Walker had a 40-yard reception from Gresham, who also connected with Tyler Klipa for a 30-yard gain. Klipa also had a two-point conversion catch from Greshem.
Stanley Faucett ran for a total of 60 yards. Matt Vawter helped the win with three successful extra point kicks and a 62-yard punt. The JV plays Nation Ford Thursday, Nov. 5.
Wrestle, play hoops at the Y
The Fort Mill YMCA is introducing a wrestling program for kids aged 6 to12. The registration deadline is Saturday, Nov. 14.
The cost is $55 for members and $75 for non-members.
Also at the Y, kids aged 7 to 15 can sign up for a youth basketball league. The registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 16.
The cost is $65 for members and $85 for non-members.

Victory leagues have openings
Victory Sports is holding registration for basketball and cheer (kindergarten through high school) programs that will be held at Sisk Baptist Church and Fort Mill Church of Nazarene.

Knights will host ChiSox
For the first time in nine years, the Charlotte Knights will play host to a Major League Baseball exhibition game next spring. The Knights will play against their parent club, the Chicago White Sox, on April 1, 2010, at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“This is a great way to kick off the 2010 baseball season hosting the White Sox,” said Knights Vice-President/General Manager Dan Rajkowski. “Knights fans will be excited to see Chicago's players and will enjoy seeing some former Knights players back here as well.”
St. Anne's team places 2nd
The St. Anne Catholic School Middle School Co-Ed Soccer Team placed second in the Charlotte-Gastonia Athletic Association Conference and runner-up in tournament play.
St. Anne's fell short in the final tournament game with a 3-0 final score against Gaston Day School. The championship game was played Oct. 23. The St. Anne School is one of nine teams competing within the CGAA. Coached by Mike Crippen, the members of the 2009 St. Anne team are: Lauren Cattafesta, Meredith Hatchett, Brody Helline, Andres Giesemann, Luke Giesemann, Patrick Gorospe, Martti Kahra, Matt King, Peyton Marion, Ian McEntee, Chasity Meyers, Kevin Nguyen, Jay Olvera, Sean Quaiel, Shelly Restificar, Walker Robards, Erick Roman, Kevin Shroat, Trevor Sweetman, Maddie Taylor, Jeremy Turner, Griffin West, Charlie Zambetti and James Zambetti.
