FORT MILL --
It wasn't the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets that stung Nation Ford, but the pain was about the same.
These Yellow Jackets, from T.L. Hanna High School, swarmed the Lady Falcons in the second round of the Class 4A tennis playoffs on the way to a 5-1 victory.
The Lady Falcons' only win in the second round match-up came from No. 5 singles player Morgan Jasper.
“It was a tough loss, but we had a good season,” said Nation Ford Head Coach Matt Rohring.
“We have been steadily improving, but it's tough to play teams that have girls who have been playing since they were young kids. We have athletes that just started playing two and three years ago (not counting Nation Ford freshman Ashley Trull, who's been playing since she could walk). We have come a long way though and I know that it was another great experience for us to be in the second round of the playoffs. We improved from last year's 0-6 loss to Wren in round two.”
Nation Ford beat Spring Valley High School in the opening round of the playoffs, 6-0, just the day before the loss to T.L. Hanna.
Trull, the Lady Falcons No. 1 singles player, won 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 singles player Jordan Bowers won 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 singles player Olivia Whitener won 6-1, 6-1.
Also getting wins for Nation Ford were No. 4 singles player Sarah Tourville 6-3, 6-2 and Jasper, who won 6-1, 6-1.
Rylee Smith and Melanie Mullen also won in No. 2 doubles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
