Night of honor

The Tega Cay Lions Club will hold its first Night of Honor at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Philip T. Glennon Community Center in Tega Cay. The evening will begin with a cash bar, followed by a sit-down dinner, speaker and special awards. The public is welcome.

Auxiliary meets

The Fort Mill American Legion Auxiliary unit will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Legion hall. Election of new officers will be held.

Calling all gardeners

Members of Gardening on the Cay may not all have green thumbs, but they are eager to learn as much as they can about gardening while enjoying the social aspects of the club. Gardening on the Cay is affiliated with the Garden Club of South Carolina Inc., and a member of the National Garden Clubs Inc.

The club is open to all ladies in the Tega Cay, Fort Mill and nearby Charlotte areas. Meetings are held in members' homes on the second Monday night each month and dues cost $20 for the year.

Helping Hands reach out to Tega Cay residents

Helping Hands of Tega Cay offers free services to Tega Cay senior citizens and others who need transportation. Local residents can call for rides to medical appointments, a day at the shopping mall and local stores, visits to the library, banking, visits to the beauty salon or barber shop, etc. Rides are available to the Fort Mill Public Library for appointments with AARP tax preparers. The first Tuesday of each month will feature trips to the mall in Pineville for Senior Citizen Day events.

Young at Heart Club offers activities

The Young at Heart, an activity group for people aged 50 and older, meets every Thursday at the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex in Fort Mill. Quarterly dues cost $24. Activities include line dancing classes at 10 a.m. the second, third and fourth Thursday of the month. Covered dish lunches are held; on special occasions lunch is catered and other times it's "lunch on the town" at a local restaurant. Let's Go is the name of a 4-H club for kids in Fort Mill aged 5 to 11. The club will explore 4-H projects such as camping, map reading, weather, cooking, animals and more. The York County Chapter of Disabled American Veterans has a DAV Auxiliary. On the second Monday of every month, Hospice & Community Care holds a support group for anyone who is taking care of someone with Alzheimer's Disease or another form of dementia This group is open to all members of the community. Group members meet in a private room at a long-term care facility in Rock Hill. In the group meetings, members share helpful hints and information about taking care of a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease/ dementia and support one another through their daily journeys. Meet the Moose

The Fort Mill Moose Lodge 1240 is a nonprofit family fraternity. Fort Mill members say it's one of the friendliest places in town for friends and fellowship and to meet, have fun, and socialize. The main focuses of the fraternity are children, the elderly, and the local community. Members support Mooseheart, the 1,000-acre Illinois home and school for children in need, and Moosehaven, the 65-acre Florida retirement community for senior members in need.

The lodge events throughout the year include an annual chili cook-off, fish fry, barbecues, dances, billiard tournaments, horseshoe tournaments, turkey shoots, an up coming adult/ children's fishing tournament and more. They also offer some of the best chicken wings (with many flavors available) on some occasions during NFL and NASCAR events. Their legendary Wednesday night home-cooked dinner is available for dine-in or take out at unbeatable prices.
