‘Reading Shack' at the Y opens Nov. 9

At 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, the Fort Mill YMCA will hold a grand opening for “The Reading Shack,” located in the chapel which was donated by the Campbell Family in honor of their daughter, Kimberly Hope Campbell.

"The Reading Shack" began as the desire of Connie Zweibohmer to share her love of reading inspirational and/or Christian-based materials with others. Having collected hundreds of books over the years, she conceived the idea of opening a library of some sort with her own books about 10 years ago. After a conversation with Karen Isaac of the Fort Mill Branch YMCA, the idea came about to set up the library in the chapel at the Y. After receiving permission to proceed with the project from the Branch Director, Susan Spencer Hollis, preparations began. All the books, book shelves, needed supplies, and labor were donated by various members and employees of the Fort Mill Branch YMCA, such as property manager Jimmie Dawkins. Final approval was given by the Campbell Family of Tega Cay, which donated the chapel to the Y in honor of their daughter.

"The Reading Shack" is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Manned mainly by volunteers, members and non-members can check-out up to three items per two week rental period. Available topics range from children's classics, such as “American Girls” and “Black Beauty,” to help books for pastors, families, and teens.

Volunteers and donations are always welcomed.
