Words of Faith - November 26, 2008
(Published November 25, 2008)
Gil Kinney is the pastor of Real Life Assembly Church in Fort Mill.

It's Thanks-giving and what a blessed time of year that is. It is a day which comme-morates no hero, no war and no special accomplishment.

I love it because it is the one time America stops to realize that all of these wonderful blessings we enjoy were not earned by us alone, but there is a God who deserves our thanks.

Our forefathers, after enduring a grueling winter and losing many of their loved ones through sickness, having their food rationed to five kernels of corn per day, instigated this day in which to give thanks to God for His blessings.

The Psalmist said, "Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms" (Songs Psalm 95:2).

In a culture where it is so easy to find fault and complain that everything is not perfect, may we discipline ourselves to rather give thanks to God for His goodness.

One night, at a prayer and praise meeting, a good brother related a long, complaining strain of experiences about the trials and difficulties which are encountered on the way to Heaven.

At the end of his talk, another brother arose and said, "I see that our brother who has just sat down lives in Grumbling Street. I lived there myself for some time, but I never enjoyed good health. The air there is bad; the houses are bad, the water is bad; the birds never came and sang in the street, and I was gloomy and sad most of the time. But finally I moved. I moved to Thanksgiving Street, and ever since then I have had good health and so have my family. The air is pure, the water good, the houses are good; the sun shines in all day; the birds are always singing; and I am happy as I can be.

"Now, I would suggest to our brother, that he, too, move. There are plenty of houses available on Thanksgiving Street."

Which street are you living on, Grumbling Street or Thanksgiving Street?

Don't forget, there is plenty of room on Thanksgiving Street, and your health would better, and your heart happier if you would move there.

"O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures for ever." - Psalm 107:1.

God bless you all and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
