• Writing contest, The deadline for the Charlotte Writers' Club's Nonfiction contest is Tuesday, Nov. 18. The contest welcomes residents of South Carolina and awards $100 to the winner and prizes of $50 and $25 for the runners-up. Submission rules are at www.charlottewritresclub.org.

• Blood drive, 3-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill.

• "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your heir!" is the theme of the Madrigal Feast presented by the Nation Ford High School Drama Department. Tickets, available only through Friday, Nov. 21, are now on sale for the event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and children.
