According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, 27-year-old April Jo Mercer was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash which occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday.

The patrol says the crash occurred when a pickup driven by 41-year-old Timothy Wells failed to stop a stop sign and collided with a Dodge van. Wells was in serious condition and a 6-year-old passenger, James Mercer, was in good condition at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. April Mercer was a passenger in Wells' truck.

The van's driver, 59-year-old J. Patrick Tharpe of Royal Palm Beach and his passenger, 53-year-old Ellen Tharpe suffered serious injuries.
