Know the issues, vote

In reading the Fort Mill Times' introduction to the Tega Cay candidates, I noticed all the candidates have several things in common: Fiscal responsibility, building up the contingency fund, annexation and now the controversial LPGA seem to be common platforms for the candidates.

All of the candidates except for one seem to be proposing that we step back from any further annexation until we can absorb and properly serve what we have.

I am not against annexing, but let us make sure that we will really benefit from any future annexation. I don't think we should keep annexing with the premise that this “could” generate more capital. “Could” and “capital” being the key words here.

I still have a real problem that this small lakeside community has amassed a debt of almost $9 million dollars and that we are temporarily out of bond money and we have little or no contingency funds. What happens if we have a costly emergency? I realize most of this debt is due to our community center and golf club, but a lot of our financial problems exist because we have commercial property that has not generated the projected income that was expected.

With the economy in a tailspin, and the anticipation of a slow economy for several years, we need to just tighten our belts and deal with what is needed versus what is wanted. I echo the voice of many of our residents who have concerns regarding this debt and our diminishing contingency fund.

Please know the issues and vote on Nov. 3
