FORT MILL --

The season for the Fort Mill High Lady Jackets volleyball team came down to two points.

Those two points knocked the Lady Jackets out of the Class 4A playoffs as they fell to Byrnes High School in five sets last week.

Fort Mill lost 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 14-16 in the second round of the playoffs.

The Lady Jackets were led by Karlie Smith, who had 10 kills and 23 digs. Megan Crimi had nine kills and 21 digs and Allison Rogers had nine kills and 18 digs. Lindsey Piedt added 34 assists.

Byrnes, the defending state champion, had knocked off top-seeded T.L. Hanna High School entering its match against the Lady Jackets.

Earlier in the week, Fort Mill struggled some against Ridge View High School in the opening round of the playoffs, but was able to pull out a four-set victory winning 25-27, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-14. Fort Mill dropped the first set to Ridge View, despite going up early 7-1. The Lady Jackets allowed Ridge View to battle back and tie the game at 9-9 in route to scoring five straight points.

“We weren't sure what we were up against,” said Fort Mill Head Coach Melanie Jaehnen.

Leading the way for the Lady Jackets against Ridge View was Rogers with 10 kills, five aces and 11 digs. Piedt had 22 assists and 13 digs and Crimi had 11 kills, 12 digs and two blocks.
