Falcons junior starter Dalton Helms cruised through the first inning striking out two of the batters and was struck out five in five innings while allowing just three hits and one walk in a 4A playoff victory.

With a combined ERA of 1.44, the Nation Ford High baseball team’s pitching staff has been out-dueling the competition all season long.

Four Nation Ford High Falcons have signed to play college athletics next year. Will Visbeck and Kenny Settle have signed to play football at Greenville Tech, while Tyler Borland signed to play baseball at Erskine College and Caylee Antilley signed to play volleyball at Columbia College.

Northwestern’s boys and girls track and field teams each won the York County Track and Field Championship Thursday at York Comprehensive High School. The Trojan boys’ victory was built on distance running, while the girls got a balanced effort from throughout the lineup en route to the win.

Nation Ford High senior Carson Smith signed Monday to play college basketball for the next two years at Olney Central College.

It took three overtimes to decide the Upper State boys’ lacrosse semifinal that eventually saw Nation ford give way to top-seeded Greenville.

At the Flo Nationals in Indiana, Pa., reigning 145-pounds state champion Nick Leitten fell to a wrestler from Michigan in the first round by pin fall for his first loss in over a year. The other local wrestlers competing also came home disappointed.

Senior Aex Skidmore scored the game-winning goal to lead Nation Ford to a 10-9 win over Spartenburg in the first round of the S.C. lacrosse playoffs.

It took six seasons, but the fort Mill High School girls softball team finally notched a win against cross-town rival Nation Ford.

Coming into the game, Nation Ford and Clover were ranked 15th and 14th, respectively, in the state, but with the Lady Flacons in a position to move up, it was the Lady Blue Eagles who prevailed, 3-2.

On the way to picking up its sixth win of the season, the 13th-ranked Nation Ford High boys’ lacrosse team upset No. 9 Spartanburg in the team’s second year of varsity play.

The Lady Falcons scattered a dozen hits as they were led by sophomore Sierra Mitchell, who went 3-3 with an RBI, as well as junior Carolyn Thompson, who went 1-3 with four RBI in a win over Rock Hill.
