FORT MILL TOWNSHIP --
The Charlotte Knights added catcher Justin Knoedler to their roster last week and pitcher Freddy Garcia was recalled to Chicago.
Knoedler was picked up from the New Orleans Zephyrs, a team also owned by Knights owner Don Beaver of the Pacific Coast League. Knoedler was hitting .182 in just nine games and 33 at-bats. He did have one home run and four RBIs during that time.
Drafted as a pitcher by the San Francisco Giants in 2001, Knoedler converted to catcher during his time in the minors. Last season, he hit .175 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 66 games for Sacramento, also with the Pacific Coast League.
Garcia barely spent anytime in Charlotte during his recent stint in the minors. He got to start one game and went six innings and giving up eight hits and two runs, while getting the loss Aug. 11.
Back in June, Garcia agreed to a minor-league contract and started in the White Sox rookie league team in Bristol before making his way through the system and onto the big league squad.
During his time in the minors this season, Garcia made four starts between Charlotte, Bristol and Single-A Kannapolis giving up four runs in 20 innings, while striking out 19.
Speaking of Major League pitchers still in the minors, Jake Peavy lost his second start in the minors last week when he fell to the Durham Bulls Aug. 18.
Peavy went four innings giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out five batters.
The pick up from the San Diego Padres hasn't pitched in the majors since June 8 due to a strained tendon in his right ankle. It was believed that Peavy would be called back to Chicago to make his White Sox debut sometime before September, but word is now he may stick around in Charlotte for one more start.
The Knights have a three-game home stand this week starting today through Friday, before going back out on the road for another four games.
Charlotte is sitting 15.5 games back in the South Division of the International League taking up the bottom spot of the division. Although it would take a miracle, they are 12 games back in the wild card standings and with four more losses would be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
