Getz, Wise join Knights for rehab stints

-  mbanks@comporium.net

FORT MILL TOWNSHIP --

The Charlotte Knights got two friendly faces back in the dugout last week in Chris Getz and Dewayne Wise.

Getz, an infielder, has been on the disabled list since Aug. 14 with a strained right oblique. He was batting .267 with two home runs and 28 RBIs in 89 games for the Chicago White Sox.

Getz spent last year in Charlotte playing in 111 games and hitting .302 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs. He was named to the International League All-Star team and played for the United States in the Major League Baseball Future's Game.

Wise, an outfielder, has been on the disabled list since Aug. 18 with a strained AC joint in his right shoulder. He was hitting .200 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 62 games for the White Sox.

Wise played in 55 games for the Knights in 2008 hitting .319 with nine home runs and 23 RBIs. He gained notoriety this season by saving Chicago's Mark Buerhle's perfect game July 23 by making a leaping catch at the outfield wall.

Knights pitcher Jake Peavy, who is still hoping to make his way to Chicago this season, had a set back this past week in his recovery.

Peavy left Saturday's game early against Norfolk because of tightness in his right elbow. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Earlier in the week, Peavy was struck on the right elbow by a line drive which could have lead to the tightness.

In his rehab starts, he has a 2.94 ERA while allowing 14 hits and four walks in 15 and a third innings. He has struck out 17 during that time frame.

Three members of the Knights were selected to represent the United States in next month's World Cup of Baseball. Outfielder Josh Kroeger, pitchers Lucas Harrell and Ehren Wasserman will make up three members of Team USA.

Kroeger has been a team leader for the Knights all season playing in 124 games and hitting .268 with 16 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Harrell has played in 10 games for the Knights after being called up from Double-A Birmingham. In those games, he has a 4-1 record with a 3.17 ERA.

Wasserman is in his third season with Charlotte. This year he has made 41 appearances going 6-3 with one save and a 3.84 ERA. He is 1-2 for the big league club with a 7.78 ERA.

The Knights come back home one final time this season for its final home stand Sept. 2-4 against Durham before heading to Gwinnett for its final three games of the season. The three home games all begin at 7:15 p.m.
