1993: A rush hour police chase through Fort Mill and Lancaster County ended with three men in jail charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, flipping a car down a deep ravine and other charges.

1993: Town of Fort Mill officials were looking for additional 10,000 sq.-ft. residential lots to meet the demand for medium-range housing.

1992: Mildred and Phillip Neal of Bozeman Drive, Fort Mill, who had received services from the Fort Mill Rescue Squad in recent months, collected $493 in donations for the volunteer organization.

1992: Fort Mill took a giant step toward a new fire station. Mayor Charles Powers said the town would build it on a 1.2 acre site on Tom Hall Street. The land was a gift from Springs Industries.

1992: A fund was established to help pay the medical expenses of renowned glass sculptor Ginny Ruffin, who grew up in Fort Mill and was seriously injured in a head-on crash.

1992: The Fort Mill Community Playhouse was planning to hold auditions for its spring production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “Oklahoma.”

1992: Odell Peoples, Fort Mill linebacker and fullback, was selected for the North Carolina- South Carolina Shrine Bowl football game. Peoples was the first Yellow Jacket selected since Randy Smith in 1974.

1992: Owners of the old Center Theatre building on Main Street were told to secure the building and improve the looks of the exterior.

1992: William Jefferson Clinton defeated George H.W. Bush and Ross Perot to win the presidential election by a wide margin. In Fort Mill, Bush won 56 percent of the vote.

1992: Steve Boyd’s Fort mill Yellow Jackets defeated Dutch Fork, 12-0, to win the Region IV Class AAA championship with a 5-0 region record. Mac Watts and Omar Wilson led the Jackets.

1992: A utility bridge over the Catawba River was dedicated in the honor of Fort Mill City Councilman Clarence Wilson.
