When Barack Obama took office, he promised America an era of “hope and change.”
The congregation at Unity’s early service on Sunday, May 6, received an additional musical blessing when Richard Priode sang “Bless This House” accompanied on the organ by our own Patsy Surratt.
Many people likely missed it, but April was Fair Housing Month. It was the 44th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act passed by Congress on April 11, 1968. This law prohibits discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, (and as amended) handicap, and familial status. Title VIII of the Act is also known as the Fair Housing Act (of 1968).
I wish to thank Michael Thomas, a postal worker from Salisbury, for the fine performance he gave Unity’s “Lunch Bunch” on Monday, March 26.
Ronald Reagan repeatedly raised taxes to bring down unwieldy deficits. In 1983, Reagan hiked gas and payroll taxes. In the 1984 tax reform, he raised revenue by closing tax loopholes for businesses, resulting in the largest corporate tax hike in history. Reagan also raised revenue by abolishing special favors for the investor class.
So, President Obama feels he can get the women’s vote by signing a bill to allow women the right alongside men on the battlefields? But he is not realizing he is putting potential mothers to be at risk and doing harm (to) future generations by inflicting damage to their reproduction system!
I would like to compliment U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-Indian Land. He is doing a fine job representing his constituents. The only problem is the constituents he is concerned about are the upper 1 percent of the population. What about the other 99 percent, including the working class and poor people?
Pass Right to Repair Act to support military families
In this letter I am addressing myself to the citizens of Fort Mill and surrounding areas. It is now obvious that I decided against running in the Republican primary for the newly opening House of Representatives District 26 Seat for the 2012 election.
The York County Council has proposed a ridiculous plan to settle the local Ambulance Wars. It demonstrates a very shallow consideration of the problem, a bias in favor of Piedmont Medical Center, political cowardice, and an unwillingness to invest the mental rigor necessary to resolve the issue fairly. Their masterful plan is the equivalent of putting the late John Candy in charge of the Twinkies.
Lakeland County (Fla.) Democrats have committed a heinous crime in direct, flagrant violation of our laws by replacing the stars on the U.S. flag with a face. As a citizen of this United States, I am utterly appalled! It is also an insult to all who have fought, living or not, for this country. I call for the perpetrators to be fined and/or imprisoned as is pursuant to the codes below and here as of Jan 7, 2011: uscode.house.gov/download/pls/ 18C33.txt.
Imagine with me for a moment you are in your home. It is very small. It has cracks in the windows. Get enough rain and the roof leaks. The carpet is stained. You are proud of what you have worked for here. You and your spouse alternate shifts at work so someone can be home with your children. Morning and night someone is always working. You have paid off most of your debt and you keep trying to get that card paid off, but it may never be cleared. Neither of your jobs carries benefits.
Very timely article about Fort Mill mail deliveries. I have been meaning to contact someone about this and low and behold, its in today's paper!
On Friday Feb, 17, while returning from an appointment in Atlanta earlier in the day, I decided to stop in Greenville and watch the high school boys’ playoff game between Fort Mill High and Eastside High of Greenville. What I witnessed was one of the best high school basketball games I have ever attended and a display of courage, effort and desire that will not be soon forgotten.
I read your article on the Fort Mill PO and was very impressed as we are having trouble here in Indian Land in getting our mail. Not only is it late, we are lucky on most days to get it by 5:30.
